About Blackhurst Aviation
A legacy of aviation excellence, precision craftsmanship, and unwavering commitment to quality since 2012.
Our Story: From Passion to Profession
Blackhurst Aviation began with a simple observation—aircraft owners in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest deserved better options for painting and repair services. Too often, they were forced to send planes to distant facilities, dealing with extended downtime and communication barriers.
Founded by James Blackhurst, a lifelong aviation enthusiast and FAA-certified technician with over two decades of experience, our facility was built on the belief that exceptional craftsmanship and genuine customer care could coexist. What started as a small operation focused on regional aircraft has grown into a comprehensive aviation services facility handling everything from private piston singles to turbine-powered business jets.
Located in Embarrass, Minnesota, our climate-controlled facility allows us to maintain strict quality standards regardless of outdoor conditions. This commitment to controlled environments ensures consistent results year-round, even in our famously harsh northern winters.
Our Mission: Excellence in Every Detail
Every aircraft that enters our facility receives the same level of attention and care, whether it's a $50,000 Cherokee needing a fresh coat or a $50 million Gulfstream undergoing complete restoration. We approach each project with the understanding that we're working on someone's valuable asset, often their pride and joy.
Our mission extends beyond simply applying paint or making repairs. We strive to build lasting relationships with our clients through transparent communication, fair pricing, and work quality that speaks for itself. When you trust Blackhurst Aviation with your aircraft, you're partnering with a team that genuinely cares about the outcome.
Industry Recognition & Certifications
Our commitment to quality has earned recognition throughout the aviation industry. We maintain active memberships in regional aviation associations and consistently pursue ongoing training in the latest techniques and materials.
All technicians maintain current FAA certifications, and our facility meets or exceeds all relevant safety and operational standards. We invest in continuous education, ensuring our team stays current with evolving aviation regulations, paint technologies, and repair methodologies.
Community Involvement
Aviation is more than our business—it's our community. Blackhurst Aviation actively supports local aviation initiatives, including youth aviation education programs and regional fly-in events. We believe in nurturing the next generation of pilots and aviation professionals.
Our facility has also served as a restoration partner for several historical aircraft projects, helping preserve aviation heritage for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
